How I Learned the Hard Way: My First Film Mistakes 🎬
And what I'm doing to try to learn from them!
I made tons of mistakes when I shot my first film.
My biggest mistake?
I didn’t ask for help.
On the artistic side, I wrote, directed, and acted in the film. I was also the producer, caterer, hospitality coordinator, and hair and make up team.

Did I think this was a good idea? No. But messing up is vulnerable! I was so afraid to make mistakes that I didn’t invite more people in.
I am doing my best to learn from past mistakes. For my next project, I’m working with a bigger cast and a bigger crew. And so begins the hard and holy process of asking for help.
There are a few things I already know we’ll need help with:
A suburban-looking home in Westchester, NY, Forest Hills Gardens, or elsewhere a short commute from NYC that we can film scenes in front of. (We will be filming the exterior of the home only.)
A wedding dress to use as a prop.
Partners in the fundraising process.
Would you be able to help with any of the above? Let me know!
What’s something that you’ve asked for help with recently? I always love hearing from you.
Happy trails,
Tova
